Doctor Sleep (Non Spoiler Review)

Doctor Sleep was directed by Mike Flanagan, and it’s based on Stephen King’s book. The story takes place years after the events of The Shining and follows the adult life of Danny Torrance. Danny Torrance helps a girl named Abra Stone to stop Rose the Hat because she’s going around killing kids for psychic energy.

Doctor Sleep is a great horror film and made me appreciate The Shining even more. What’s great about Doctor Sleep is that it felt like it was its own film while respecting the lore from the previous film. You can watch this film by itself without having to watch The Shining (still watch the film though because it does go full fan service). The movie was so good that I didn’t want it to end, I even stayed until the credits finished rolling.

The music and visuals in this film were top-notched! The music complemented the movie well, and it made it felt intense. And the way certain scenes were shot was stunning. If you’re a fan of The Shining, there are many times in the film where you’re going to feel the nostalgia coursing through your body.

The cast in this film was great! Ewan McGregor, who played the adult Danny Torrance, was damn good and makes you realize how underrated of an actor he is. Rebecca Ferguson plays Rose the Hat, and she was such a fun character! Even though Rose was the bad guy, it was hard to hate her. Abra Stone is played by Kyliegh Curran, and she was my favorite character in this movie. Abra’s powers and confidence sold me, and it didn’t feel forced at all making her a really important character in the film.

I loved Doctor Sleep, and I hope there’s a sequel for this film. The movie is 2h 31m, but it didn’t feel like a long movie at all. If you’re a fan of The Shining, trust me, you’re going to fall in love with this film. Also, if you haven’t seen The Shining, you don’t have to because as I’ve said before, it does feel like was its own film. Highly recommend watching this film right away, hell go right after reading this review!
