So, I was watchingIron Man 2 last night, and something clicked. I believe that Ivan Vanko (Whiplash) is Natasha Romanoff’s father. Crazy, I know, but let me explain.

When Natasha and Clint went on Vormir, Red Skull said that Natasha is the daughter of Ivan. Natasha doesn’t know much about her history and was recruited by the Red Room. Natasha is also Russian and was born in 1984.

Ivan Vanko became Whiplash because he wanted revenge on Stark for putting him and his father (Anton Vanko) in the position they’re in. Ivan Vanko was born on February 15, 1968, and he’s also Russian. On another note is the fact in the comics Anton Vanko is Whiplash! I believe before the events of Iron Man 2, Ivan did meet a woman and got her pregnant, and put Natasha up for adoption.
Marvel Studios always did stuff a little different from the comics. Also, in the comics, there is Ivan Petrovich Bezukhov, but I don’t think they’ll bring him up, especially since there is no build-up or mention of him at all in the MCU. Plus,Black Widow is Natasha’s last movie (from what they’ve said), and I’m sure they’ll use someone who’s already established in the MCU to be her father, aka Ivan Vanko. But hey, this is just my speculation.
