‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ Editor Reveals Why There Wasn’t Much Detail About Palpatine In The Film.

One of my complaints about TROS is the lack of detail about Palpatine, and how he returned. Thanks to Maryann Brandon (editor of ep 9), we finally got answers why that is.

Here is what Brand said:

It was kind of a delicate balance and went back and forth a lot about how much we wanted to reveal. Some scenes changed quite a bit, the way that we wanted to present it to the audience. In the end, we ended up showing a lot less of it than we started with

Brandon continued:

There was so much information in the film and so many characters that we wanted to have an audience concentrate on. I think we felt we didn’t want to clutter the film up with things you didn’t need to know

This was not a smart move at all. If Palpatine was the enemy from the start, why would they not have important details for him in the film? Also, there wasn’t a lot of focus on other characters to begin with, it was the Reylo show. As much as I love the film, I hate the approach they went to reveal Palpatine and how a quote from ROTS was enough to explain the reason why he’s alive. Incredibly disappointed.
