Richard Donner, the man who directed Superman (one of my favorite DC films of all time), is tired of dark superhero films.
Here’s what Donner told The Telegraph:
There are so many people that make superheroes so cynical, it’s depressing. When they’re dark and bleak and angry with themselves and the world, I don’t find it entertaining. I think there’s enough reality going on for that. We just got over four years of that. I think we crave the opposite.”
I agree with Donner regarding dark superhero films. We have so many light-hearted heroes, but the studios just want to make them dark. Marvel has done a great job having a balance of dark and light-hearted superhero films. Also, WB is slowly getting better with light-hearted content for DC films. I hope a lot of films going forward isn’t as dark or bleak because life right now is already like that.
