I’m going to get straight to the point, I loved this movie! We’ve waited years for Godzilla and Kong to go at it again (their first fight was in 1962), and they did not disappoint. The film isn’t perfect at all, but we got what we wanted and that’s big monsters going at it.

Godzilla vs. Kong is about getting Kong to fight Godzilla after Godzilla attacked Apex. You can tell that they did not care about the plot at all because they know what the people want, Godzilla and Kong going at it! Now, I’m happy we got the big crazy Kaiju fight that we wanted since the first Godzilla (2014) film, but I did want the plot to be better. Many useless plotlines in the film and many plot holes that I wished were explained in detail. If they just made the film a bit longer to explain certain things, then I would’ve been fine. If you’re planning to watch the movie for the plot then you’ll be disappointed.

The human characters were just terrible in this film, and I was surprised they went that route again. That’s why I praise Kong: Skull Island a lot because that film nailed it with both the humans and Kaiju. One character that I want to heavily praise was Jia, who’s played by Kaylee Hottle. Jia is the character who has a connection with Kong and uses sign language to speak with him. I loved all the scenes Jia was in, especially when she was with Kong. Jia is the heart of the movie, and that’s a fact.

The visuals in this film are gorgeous! There were so many moments where I was like “damn, I need to see this in IMAX” because I was in awe. Both Godzilla and Kong looked great, even Mechagodzilla’s design was detailed. No wonder the movie is short because the budget to have the monsters on the screen looks expensive. Kudos to the team behind the visual for this film, it’s a 10/10 in my books.

Now the important part, the action. I got everything I want with the action between Kong and Godzilla, they were going all out. The two fights we get were just so badass, plus I like how the film showed both the strength and weaknesses of both Kaiju. Also, not to get into spoilers, but when Mechagodzilla showed up, even that fight made me lose it. Very testosterone-filled, and I love it.

Overall, again I love Godzilla vs. Kong, but not for the plot, just two Kaiju going at it. I would highly recommend watching the film in IMAX because you can tell that’s how the movie was supposed to be watched (be safe & vaccinated of course). Definitely my second favorite MonsterVerse film from WB. I hope this isn’t the end we see these characters on the big screen because the potential is there, and I would love to see them continue. If this is the last time we see Godzilla and Kong then at least they went out with a bang.
Ok you read the review, so stop wasting time and go watch the movie already!
