Netflix’s Live-Gundam Movie Announced!

Well, it was a matter of time that we were going to a get a live-action Gundam, and Netflix has finally pulled the trigger. A live-action Gundam movie is officially in the works, and will be directed and produced by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) with writer Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man)!

From Variety, here’s what their article said:

From giant apes to giant robots: Filmmaker Jordan Vogt-Roberts (“Kong: Skull Island”) is set to direct and produce a live-action adaptation of wildly popular anime series “Gundam” for Legendary and Netflix, the streamer announced on Monday.

Famed comic book writer Brian K. Vaughan (“Y: The Last Man”) is writing the screenplay and will executive produce. Legendary’s Cale Boyter is overseeing the project, along with Sunrise — the Japanese animation studio behind the “Gundam” franchise. Legendary will distribute the film theatrically in China.

Look, I’m not a big fan of anime live-action adaptions, but I have 100% faith in Jordan Vogt-Roberts and Brian K. Vaughan. Jordan Vogt-Roberts is a fellow passionate nerd, so I know that the film is going to look incredible and will be for the fans, plus Brian K. Vaughan is a great writer, which made my heart filled with joy knowing that the story will be great. This is honestly fantastic news, and I can’t wait to see how they’ll pull it off.

Now, the real question is, which era of Gundam will be adapted!? Gundam existed since the 70’s, so there’s years of content. I’ve been a Gundam fan since I was 5 years old, and I would love to see a live-action Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. I have no problem with adapting the original series either because I loved the rivalry between Char and Amuro. Hell, if this is a complete original adaption, which is ballsy, I think they’ll kill it.

As you can see, I’m super excited for this movie. I’ve always wanted to see a live-action Gundam series or movie, and I’m happy that the time has finally come.
