Justice Society: World War II is the new DC animated film from Warner Bros. Animation, and it’s one of the best DC films I’ve seen, not kidding. The film was directed by Jeff Wamester, produced by Jim Krieg & Kimberly S. Moreau, and written by Meghan Fitzmartin & Jeremy Adams. JSWWII has a great story, amazing visuals, scores, and more! Let’s jump right into the review.
JSWWII follows Barry Allen (Matt Bomer), the Flash, who discovers the Speed Force for the first time. While traveling through the Speed Force, the Flash gets thrown right into a warzone where the Justice Society of America is battling the Nazis during World War II. The Justice Society is a team that consists of Wonder Woman (Stana Katic), Black Canary (Elysia Rotaru), Hawkman (Omid Abtahi), Hourman (Matthew Mercer), and Jay Garrick (Armen Taylor), and Steve Trevor (Christopher Diamantopoulos). The Flash teams up with the Justice Society to help out with their situation, while also trying to figure out how to get home.
The story for JSWII was so good! Going into this, I thought I knew what the film was going to be about, but boy was I wrong. The many twists and reveals caught me off guard, which left me smiling and shocked. The film had fun, serious, and sad moments that made me emotionally invested. From beginning to end, JSWWII does not disappoint.
I really enjoyed the animation for JSWWII. The animation style is the same as Superman: Man of Tomorrow, which I knew right away I was going to love it. The visuals just looked great, especially the fights in this film because there was this one Wonder Woman fight that made me lose it. Big kudos to the animation department that worked on JSWWII because y’all killed it!
The cast for JSWWII all did great. When I heard the actors play the characters in the film, my brain already associated them instantly to who they were playing. From Matt Bomer as the Flash to Stana Katic’s Wonder Woman, everyone just did a stellar job. My favorite voice in the film Elysia Rotaru as Black Canary, she killed it. Warner Bros. Animation has been doing a fantastic job with casting.
JSWWII is a great addition to the new DCAU. In my opinion, I couldn’t really find a flaw with the film. Just everything about the film was just amazing, but if I had a nitpick about the film it would be that there was a character I would love to see with the JSA, but I guess we’ll see him or a mention in the future. This film is definitely a gem, especially if you’re a fan of the Golden Age of DC comics.
Go watch Justice Society: World War II because it’s worth it. If you’re a DC fan, then this will leave you smiling just like me.
Justice Society: World War II! The film is now available digitally, and on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack on May 11th!
