The Legendary Kentaro Miura, ‘Berserk’ Creator, Passed Away

Now, this is a death that hit me. The legendary Kentaro Miura, creator of the popular manga Berserk, has passed away. The announcement of his passing was last night, but he died on May 6th at the age of 54.

Here’s the tweet:

The translations of the tweet:

Dr. Kentaro Miura, the author of “Berserk”, passed away on May 6, 2021 due to acute aortic dissection. We would like to express our utmost respect and gratitude to Dr. Miura’s painting work and pray for his soul. May 20, 2021 Hakusensha Co., Ltd. Young Animal Editorial Department

Kentaro Miura has been working on Berserk since 1989. He’s also done other works as well such as Futatabi (1985), King of Wolves (1989), Giganto Maxia (2013), and more.

I’ve been a fan of Berserk since I was a kid in middle school, around 13 years old. The art style blew me away and the storytelling was so intense! Growing up with the series, especially now as an adult, a lot of the story does hit a cord and resonated with me. Kentaro Miura’s work was special, and still is.

When I saw the news of Kentaro Miura’s death I was devastated. Also, the fact he was actually gone since the beginning of the May is even more painful. I was so caught off guard that I didn’t even want to believe it, hell, even now I still don’t believe it. Again, this hurts me.

I know a lot of us fans are still mourning. All I can say is that we should just continue to talk about his work and continue to keep his legacy alive. Plus, there’s so many games, manga/anime, comics, and more that was influenced by Kentaro Miura’s so his spirit will live long.

If you haven’t read Berserk, please do, you won’t regret it.

I don’t know what else to say, but all I can say is thank you Kentaro Miura for all your amazing work, and you’ll be deeply missed.
