‘Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One’ Review – Another Home Run!

Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One is the brand new DC animated film from Warner Bros. Animation, and they once again knocked it out the park! The film is directed by Chris Palmer, written by Tim Sheridan, and produced by Jim Krieg & Kimberly S. Moreau. The voice acting, animation, and storytelling was great. The film is an awesome adaption to Jeph Loeb’s & Tim Sale’s Batman: The Long Halloween. Let’s jump right into the review so I can go into detail, also, no spoilers.

Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One is about a young Batman (Jensen Ackles) who teams up with Captain James Gordon (Billy Burke) and Harvey Dent (Josh Duhamel) to find out who’s the serial killer murdering people in Gotham during the Holidays. Is the Holiday Killer Joker (Troy Baker), Carmine Falcone (Titus Welliver), or is it someone right under their nose? It’s up to Batman and the gang to find out who’s the Holiday Killer before he/she find their next victim before it’s too late.

I thought the story for the film was done really well, and had me on my toes. When watching the movie, there was many moments where I was like “damn, this film even tricked me!” I felt like I was helping Batman trying to solve the case, and if a film can make me do that then you’ve done your job. Definitely a strong start, and eager to see how it’ll end with part two.

The film’s animation style is just gorgeous, and everything looked fluid. It’s like a modern take of Bruce Timm’s Batman: The Animated Series when it came to the art style. Everything just stood out to me, both the characters and the environment, and I loved it. If there’s more Batman film after Batman: The Long Halloween or any animated film that will use this kind of gothic art style, sign me up.

The casting for Batman: The Long Halloween is perfect. Jensen Ackles isn’t new to Gotham because he also played Jason Todd in Batman: Under the Red Hood, but holy hell, he played a damn good Bruce Wayne/Batman. If Kevin Conroy ever decided to pass the torch of voicing Batman, Ackles would be a perfect choice. Naya Rivera did an awesome job as Selina Kyle/Catwoman as well. Josh Duhamel as Harvey Dent, Billy Burke as James Gordon, Titus Welliver as Carmine Falcone, Troy Baker as Joker (loved him in Batman: Arkham Origins), just the whole cast just did such an awesome job.

I promise you, you won’t be disappointed with the voice acting in this movie.

What more can I say? Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One is the complete package. I’m really looking forward to how the story will conclude in Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two.

The moment Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One drops, buy it, or else the Holiday Killer finds you.

Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One will be available Digital and Blu-ray on June 22, 2021.
