‘Static: Season One’ Issue One Review – Static Is Back!

DC/Milestone Comic’s Static: Season One #1 has finally released this week, and after waiting for so damn long, was it worth the wait? Of course it was! The comic was written by Vita Ayala, and art by Nikolas Draper-Ivey & ChrisCross.

The first issue is about the aftermath of what happened to Virgil Hawkins after a protest he joined in his home city Dakota. While in the protest, experimental tear gas was released into the crowd that gave him and many other people abilities, which is known as the Big Bang (read Milestone Returns: Infinite Edition). With these new electromagnetic powers, will Vergil be able to control it or will his school bullies, who also received unique powers, push him over the edge? Only time will tell.

Static: Season One #1 started off incredibly strong! Even if you didn’t read Milestone Returns: Infinite Edition, it did a great job to give you a gist of what happened so you wouldn’t get lost. Seeing Vergil trying to control his anger so he doesn’t release his powers out was a nice touch for his character. Also, I loved the family interaction in the comic because they just want what’s best for Vergil and for him to be ok. Without spoiling much, the interaction between Vergil and Hotstreak was great, and a nice way to leave the readers wanting more.

The art in this comic was just out of this world! As a fan of manga, this was a big brain move, and it’s done in a way where the art style didn’t feel forced, it felt natural, which I appreciate. I loved the colors, the action, the style of the characters, and more. This was just the first issue, and I can’t even imagine how the upcoming issues is going to look like.

I just loved Static: Season One #1, and I’m excited to see how the story will play out after reading that cliffhanger. Static is back, and it’s in good hands with the team behind the series. Also, if this is what I got from Static: Season One, my body is ready for the rest of the Milestone lineup.

Go to your local comic shop and pick up Static: Season One #1!
