Finally got the chance to beat Insomniac Games’ Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and my god, it was such a fantastic experience! Let’s jump into the review so I can talk about how good this game is.
In Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Dr. Nefarious is back to cause some trouble once again by stealing the Dimensionator during Ratchet & Clank’s celebration event. After Dr. Nefarious accidentally damages the fabric of time, and caused many dimensional rifts in the process, Ratchet & Clank gets separated in another dimension where Nefarious is an emperor. Clank meets a female Lombax named Rivet, and they team-up to reunite with Ratchet and fix the damaged dimensional rifts caused by Dr. Nefarious before it’s too late.
As a fan of the Ratchet & Clank series, I was truly happy with the story. I was not expecting this game to be a sequel to Into the Nexus, but I’m happy it is! I was in awe from beginning to end. I laughed, felt some heart strings pulled, and more. This is my second favorite story in the series, right under Up Your Arsenal. Also, what’s great about the story, you can honestly jump into the game not knowing much, but I promise you will want to after playing it.
The way game was able to nicely introduce new characters like Rivet and many others. The character introductions is done in a way where you’re having Ratchet or Clank meet the new characters right from the jump, and it didn’t feel force, just very fluid. I really loved all the characters in the game, especially Kit, she was my favorite.
Rift Apart was just such an incredibly written game!
Rift Apart‘s graphics was gorgeous! The many different planets looked so good (especially Corson V since I’m a big fan of the Cyberpunk genre), Rivet’s and Ratchet’s fur looked awesome, the details on other characters as well were great, basically everything in this game made me had eyegasms. This game is using the full power of the PS5 for sure because this is probably the best looking game currently on the system.
You can tell the team over at Insomniac worked hard because I was blown away with how good Rift Apart looked.
The gameplay was so much fun! All the weapons in the game were cool to use, and you’ll be surprised how useful all of them are (I’m a shatterbomb kind of guy). Using the rifts during battle was such a nice touch, and I had a heck of a time. Speaking of rifts, just like what everyone said, the load times in this game is non-existent because of the power of the PS5’s SSD.
Another thing I enjoyed was how the game utilizes the PS5 controller! The haptic feedback in Rift Apart is the best on the console, and the adaptive triggers when using your weapons or any other items was DONE RIGHT.
Rift Apart‘s gameplay is just top-notched.
What can I say? I just really adore this game. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is just the complete package when it comes to a video game. If this is what Insomniac has to offer, then I’m excited to see what they’ll do in the future!
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart does not disappoint, and if there’s any reason to get a PS5, it’s this game.
Insomniac Games continues to show how great of a company they are and their games show it.
