‘Free Guy’ Review – The Best Action-Comedy Of 2021!

If you enjoyed the post, follow here:

Well, I saw Free Guy…and it was bloody fantastic! I haven’t had that much fun watching a film like that in a while, so it was a nice change of pace for me. I laughed, I gasped, and I passed (it rhymed, but there’s a scene that almost made me passed out from excitement). Time to jump into the review, spoiler-free of course.

Free Guy is about an NPC named Guy (Ryan Reynolds) who lives his life the same way everyday as a bank teller in Free City until he decided that he wanted to do things differently. Millie (Jodie Comer) and Keys (Joe Keery) created the program that is being used for Free City, so they’re trying to take down Antwan (Taika Waititi) for taking credit and stop him from deleting the game. Guy will become the hero of Free City and save it from being wiped out before it’s too late.

I thought they nailed the story! The character interactions were awesome, especially Millie’s role in the film. From start to end I was having such a blast, especially the cameos and refences because I lost it. Also, I laughed a bunch as well because the jokes were catching me off guard. In my opinion, I don’t think there was a weak point in the story, but there are some scenes where I’m like “Yeah, maybe they shouldn’t have added that,” but that’s it. Definitely enjoyed it.

The action in Free Guy were actually really damn good. You got some shooting, hand to hand combat, explosions, basically if you can think it then it’s there. There was a scene where Guy was whooping ass and I was getting hyped as hell! Yeah, definitely surprised me.

Oh and the visuals were good as well. When watching, I remember saying to myself “Wow, we came such a long way since Spy Kids 3.” The only time things looked weird was when they were in the real world watching things play out in the game, which is understandable since it’s not real and it’s all CGI.

The soundtrack was a bop. I was vibing to a lot of the songs in the theater! It just made me feel good, and I liked that.

The cast was solid! I’ve seen Ryan Reynolds play a fouled mouth killer for so long that it was cool to see him play someone the complete opposite. Taika Waititi playing a dick CEO of a game company was pretty spot on and he killed it. Joe Keery and Utkarsh Ambudkar (Mouser) did a fine job as well.

I really want to praise Jodie Comer for playing Molotov Girl in the game and Millie in real life. Comer was so good, and I feel like she outshined everyone in the movie. If there’s a sequel then I can’t wait to see her return!

I liked Free Guy more than I thought I was going to. Fun story, great cast, badass action, and one hell of a time. Free Guy is for sure the best action-comedy to release this year, and one of the best action-comedy films of all time!

So go out and watch this with your family and friends because you’re in for a treat.
