Just finished watching Knights of Sidonia: Love Woven in the Stars, based on Tsutomu Nihei’s manga series, and it was one hell of a ride. As someone who is fresh into Knights of Sidonia, I thought that it was a satisfying conclusion to the franchise. You get some good dialogue, visuals, and action as well! So without further ado, let’s jump into this spoiler-free review of the film.
Knights of Sidonia: Love Woven in the Stars is directed by Tadahiro ‘Tady’ Yoshihira, and written by Sadayuki Murai & Tetsuya Yamada. After almost ten years since Nagate Tanikaze saved Sidonia from the Guana forces, it’s time to save Sidonia once again. In this final battle, things get intense and unexpected love blossoms. Will humanity continue on living or will Guana conquer?
I got to say, I was surprised how much I actually enjoyed the film. From the character interactions to the intensity of the final battle, it was done well, especially the pacing. Also, I was really invested in the relationship between Nagate and Tsumugi, they definitely got many emotions out of me in this film that’s for sure. Overall, I loved the outcome of the film, I was smiling from cheek to cheek.
Knights of Sidonia: Love Woven in the Stars knocks it out the park concluding the franchise, in my opinion. If you’re a long time fan who’s been waiting since 2015 to see it end, I promise you that you’re not going to be disappointed.
When it came to the animation, I thought the team over at Polygon Pictures did a solid job. If there’s one thing I’m not a huge fan of when it comes to anime is when it’s CGI, but I got to give credit where credit is due. The action and visuals were fluid, especially the characters. As a fan of the Mecha genre, I got what I want out of this film.
I’m a fan of the score of the film! Shuji Katayama killed it with the music choices made to be in scenes. I thought it was beautifully well done.
I watched Knights of Sidonia: Love Woven in the Stars dubbed, and the cast did a great job. Let’s be honest, when has Johnny Yong Bosch (Nagate Tanikaze) given us bad performances? Exactly, never. Also, Bosch and Alex Shi (Tsumugi Shiraui) have great chemistry in the film! Wendy Lee as Captain Kobayashi is one of my favorites from Knights of Sidonia, so I enjoyed her as well.
The English cast as a whole did a awesome. I don’t think there was anyone who felt out of place when voicing their character. Kudos to the voice cast for great performance.
Knights of Sidonia: Love Woven in the Stars was the whole package! If you’re a long time fan of Knights of Sidonia, then you’re going to get what you want out of this film. Great cast, solid animation, good music, nice pacing, and an awesome story.
Knights of Sidonia: Love Woven in the Stars will release on September 13th in theaters for a limited time, so if you’re comfortable then go out and see this film to see the epic conlcusion.
