You know this year was a good year for comics when I’m doing a top 10 and not 5 like the previous lists. So many incredible stories and art that just exceeded my expectations, and honestly this has been the strongest year for comics in a very long time. Let’s jump right into this bad boy because I had a lot of time to think about it, also it wont be numbered because that’s like asking me “what’s your favorite dessert.”

Cinnamon

Behemoth Comics’ Cinnamon by Victoria Douglas is only three issues, and I loved the hell out of it. The punk feel of it, badass art, and the characters are all amazing! I’ve become an instant fan of Victoria, and I can’t wait to see what she has next.

Teen Titans Academy

DC’s Teen Titans Academy is a series written by Tim Sheridan, and he is killing it in the comic industry. The issues just gets better and better, plus as a fan of Red X, this is giving me huge satisfaction. Each issue leaves me wanting more. I love the art by Rafa Sandoval, Mike Norton, and Tom Derenick throughout the series as well. Definitely one of DC’s heavy hitters in 2021.

Death of Doctor Strange

One of my favorite Doctor Strange series, Marvel’s The Death of Doctor Strange! Jed Mackay (writer) and Lee Garbett (artist) are knocking it out of the park with this limited run. The series will be ending in January, and with the way it’s going right now, definitely a 10 out of 10. A lot of the times when I read the story and see the art it made me go “DAMN!”

Black Hammer Reborn

How was I not going to add Jeff Lemire’s Black Hammer Reborn, published by Dark Horse?! I was honestly surprised how much I enjoyed the series because I picked it up randomly. It’s a great read, and now I’m apart of the Black Hammer fan club.

MFKZ

One thing is for sure, Behemoth Comics’ MFKZ is a ridiculously fun series! MFKZ was created by RUN, and everything about it is insane. The art is on a different level each issue, and the story is impressive. This series has a cool factor that I feel like no one was touching this year.

Daredevil

I don’t know if this will be controversial, but Chip Zdarsky’s Daredevil run is the best Daredevil story in Marvel. Plus the art is just amazing all around from Marco Checchetto, Mike Hawthorne, Francesco Mobili, Stefano Landini, and Manuel Garcia. I don’t know who will write Daredevil after Zdarsky because you’ll need a ladder to go to space with how high he set the bar.

Eternals

My favorite Marvel team until the day I die! Marvel’s Eternals by Kieron Gillen (writer) and Esad Ribic (artist) are a match made in heaven because every issue is a damn 10. You know how unfair it is to drop banger after banger? Hell, it’s only been eight issues and I’m still scratching my neck for more… SPOIL ME WITH MORE ETERNALS!

The Flash

Wally West is the greatest Flash ever, and one of my favorite DC characters of all time. Jeremy Adams’ The Flash makes me proud to be a Wally fan with how amazing his writing is for the series. If you would to ask me “hey, what was your favorite issue of The Flash?” My answer would be “Yes.”

Icon and Rocket: Season One

Milestone Comics coming back this year has been the best thing to happen in the comics industry, I’ve waited so long to see these amazing characters return. Icon and RocketSeason One by Leon Chills (writers) and
Doug Braithwaite (artist) are doing an amazing job with these characters. Every time a new issue drops, I’m willing to leave my house and buy it, and if you follow me on twitter then you know it’s true.

StaticSeason One

StaticSeason One is perfect, period. I love Vita Ayala’s writing because it flows so good (love your New Mutants run too and that’s my favorite X-Men team), especially the dialogue. The art by both Nikolas Draper-Ivey and ChrisCross is untouchable in 2021! If you’re a manga fan, this series perfected manga style art in American comics, no debate. Dwayne Glenn McDuffie would be proud if he would have read this series. I would love to see this team continue with Static.
