HBO Max’s Peacemaker is a damn fantastic show. The whole team behind Peacemaker knocked it out the park, also I think this might be James Gunn’s best work. This is honestly one of the best comic book shows to ever existed. Let’s jump right into the spoiler-free review.

Peacemaker is a series created by James Gunn, and it takes place five months after the events of The Suicide Squad. The series follows Christopher Smith/Peacemaker (John Cena) and he is recruited by a black ops squad named ARGUS. Peacemaker and the rest of ARGUS are on a mission called “Project Butterfly,” which is to take out these butterfly creatures before they continue to takeover humanity.

Even though Peacemaker is ridiculously hilarious, the series gets better and deeper each episode, and it’s impressive. What the series does is make you feel bad for Peacemaker because even though he’s one of the biggest douchebags, he’s been through a lot, so you understand why Peacemaker is the way he is. I loved how well written the team dynamic was in the show, plus you can see how amazing the chemistry is from the cast.

A lot of the characters in the show all play an important role and are greatly utilized. One of my favorites in Peacemaker is Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, and in my opinion, she’s the heart of the series. The interactions between Leota Adebayo and Peacemaker are definitely the highlights for me.

With all 8 episodes out, the series is just fantastic! James Gunn just continues to blow my mind with his storytelling, and I’m ready to see what else will come out of this man for season 2.

What a great cast in Peacemaker! I’ve said this in my review for The Suicide Squad and I’ll say it again, John Cena as Peacemaker is his best work. Cena showed his range in this series, and it surprised me a lot. I’m happy Cena is being given the opportunity to show what he can really do as an actor because he killed it.

As mentioned before, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo is my favorite in Peacemaker. Brooks needs to be getting her flowers because she is such an incredible actress. Would love to see her more in the future of the DCEU.

Freddie Stroma as Vigilante caught me off guard with how many times he made me laugh. The things he says and does in the show always made me rewind or pause because I’ll die of laughter. Stroma is great for sure.

Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Steve Agee as John Economos are awesome in the show too. When they’re together or have interactions with Peacemaker, they all bounce of great. And without going into details, they’re all badass in their own right.

Lastly, I got to praise Robert Patrick as August Smith / White Dragon because he’s a dick. Patrick just plays a good bad guy, so it’s not that surprising, but there’s just times where I went “Can someone please whoop his ass?!” Yeah, I love Patrick in Peacemaker.

Peacemaker just have one hell of a cast from big roles to minor roles.

The score in Peacemaker is so good. Each episode really had me like “Damn, let me add this to my playlist.” Oh, and that intro, if that ain’t art I don’t know what is. Basically, if James Gunn is involved with anything, then I always expect great music, and props to both Clint Mansell & Kevin Kiner as well!

I enjoyed the cinematography is in the show and the special effects. Even though it’s a series, it still looks like a film. Also, the action scenes in Peacemaker are badass! Overall, the team did a good job for the look and feel of the show.

The designs are great too. When it comes to the costumes like Peacemaker to the White Dragon, it just works and not too over the top. Even the Butterflies looked good, and other things I won’t say because spoilers. Kudos to the design team.

I had expectations for Peacemaker to be good, but it exceeded it. The show just hits all the marks and it has a lot of surprises in store for fans. First The Suicide Squad and now Peacemaker, I can’t wait to see James Gunn’s next DC project, and the same goes for the cast.

Peacemaker is a must watch for sure. The show will leave you wanting more every time you finish an episode. And, if you love The Suicide Squad, you’ll love this show.
