Paramount, you’ve done it again! Sonic the Hedgehog 2, just like the first film, has made me such a happy fan. The sequel took the best parts of the first film and just did everything better, even the humans in the film was even written good. Who would’ve thought that Sonic would have two of the best live-action video game adaption films (yeah I said it)?!

In Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic is trying to prove that he has what it takes to be a hero. Sonic’s true test of being a hero is when Dr. Robotnik returns with a new backup, Knuckes the Echidna. Both Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik are both in search for the Master Emerald, which has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with the fan favorite companion, Tails, so they can find the Master Emerald before it gets into the wrong hands.

The plot for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is written a lot stronger than the first one by far! The film pulls a lot of lore from the Sonic games and I appreciate that. Oh and the characters are written so much better as well, especially the humans. I was a little worried we’ll get too many pointless human storytelling that would bring down the film, but nope, it was ridiculously funny and it flowed well with the film.

The introduction of Tails and Knuckles were just amazing, just a knockout of the park. I love how more unhinged Dr. Robotnik has become, and I hope the 3rd film just goes full on Dr. Eggmman. And of course, Sonic has been done justice yet again and I like how he’s maturing as a character.

Of course you get some silly and cringe writing throughout the film because it’s aimed for kids, but this film isn’t afraid to be loyal to the hardcore Sonic fans.

I enjoyed the cast for Sonic the Hedgehog 2. I was just so impressed with how great the cast was in this movie.

Idris Elba literally can do it all. When he was announced to play Knuckles, everyone knew right away he would be amazing, but he exceeded expectations. He really was my favorite character in the movie.

Getting Colleen O’Shaughnessey to voice Tails was a genius move, especially since she’s been voicing the character in the games since 2014. Colleen O’Shaughnessey gave an amazing performance throughout the movie. She’s proof enough that Hollywood needs to bring in actors who has voiced characters for years because you’ll get magic.

Ben Schwartz as Sonic is still so good. I enjoyed his take on Sonic more in this film than the previous one, since Sonic is growing and maturing. Ben Schwartz is going down as one of my favorite portrayals as the character.

Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik continues to be perfect. As someone who has been watching his career as a kid, this is definitely his top 5 roles he has ever done. I know Jim Carrey said he’s considering retiring but I hope he has one more in the tank.

James Marsden as Tom Wachowski and Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski were also good in this movie. I’m happy that the script did the actors justice because I loved them in this movie, and the same goes for Natasha Rothwell as Rachel. There was many times in the film where they just cracked me up in the theater.

Just a solid cast all around, and I guess the only way you can go is up when it comes to the next film.

I was very impressed with the VFX in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. From the textures of the CGI characters, robots, action, and more, it just looked really good. Hell, there was so much Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, that made me go like “Damn, Paramount isn’t afraid to show these characters now!” Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is probably going to look insane.

The character designs and costumes were great as well. I loved how good Knuckles and Tails looked. I don’t want to spoil the film, but the final fight of the film…yeah he looked fantastic. Also, Dr. Robotnik just continues to look better each movie, so now it’s time to make him look like his video game counterpart (If you catch it, you can see that version of Dr. Robotnik).

Sonic the Hedgehog 2‘s score pulls a lot from the first movie. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. It’s still enjoyable and I love some of the new music added. I can’t wait to hear what the next film will sound like.

As as a long time Sonic fan, I just really loved this movie. There was so many times throughout the film where I just had a big smile on my face. Basically, the kid in me was not disappointed, and I don’t think there’s anything I would change about the film. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 can’t come fast enough because I’m ready for more.

I definitely recommend watching Sonic the Hedgehog 2. If you enjoyed the first film, then you’ll love this one for sure.
