After the long wait, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is finally out on Netflix, and HOLY FUCK!!! This show was just hitting all the marks for me when it came to animation, the score, and storytelling. And not only is this top series of 2022, but one of my favorite Cyberpunk genre in media of all time. Let’s just jump in to the rest of the review.

Created by Studio Trigger and CD PROJEKT RED, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners follows a street kid named David Martinez trying to survive Night City. After a terrible tragedy, David decides that it was time that he controls his own destiny, which leads him becoming an edgerunner! After becoming an edgerunner, also know as a cyberpunk, David and the people around will see if he’s truly special.

I thought the writing for the series was superb! There was so many times where I thought I knew where the story was going and then I’ll be hit with a twist. Also, I didn’t expect expect to be in a emotional rollercoaster ride while watching the show. And the cherry on top, as someone who loves Cyberpunk 2077, all the easter eggs and references was putting a smile on my face.

The writing for the characters were done pretty well. I was not expecting to get attached to them in such a short amount of time. Everyone stood out, but in a good way. Even though the series is 10 episodes, I think they were able to do what they wanted to do.

The series does everything right regarding storytelling. I was so amazed how little dialogue and metaphors just ties the whole thing up in a pretty bow. Just fantastic all around.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has a fantastic English voice cast! I actually went in going almost blind when it came to watching the series in English, but everything just clicked right away. Big props to the casting director for the voices because everyone just killed it.

I’m actually looking forward to watching the series again in Japanese to see how well it meshes with the character’s personalities. Plus, this series deserves a few more viewings from me anyway. Again, a fine job from the English voice cast and can’t wait to hear the Japanese cast.

Oh man, this is Studio Trigger’s best work by far. If you don’t know, Studio Trigger did Kill la Kill, Promare , and more, but this show just exceeded all the company’s previous work. The action was just fantastic, the aesthetic of this world was beautiful, and the character designs is one of the best I’ve seen in anime. Studio Trigger continues to do no wrong in my eyes, and it’s great to see that they raised the bar regarding their work.

The score for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is so good! A lot of the song is from the game so it was great seeing the anime utilize the music really well, and I love the intro & outro. The team being the music will be seeing the pearly gates with how much they blessed my ears.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners does not disappoint at all. Studio Trigger and CD PROJEKT RED were a match made in heaven with how great this series ended up being. I honestly believe the show is perfect, and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. I hope we get more anime set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe because there’s so much story that can be told, please just throw me a bone here!

I highly recommend watching Cyberpunk: Edgerunners! If you’re an anime fan or a fan of Cyberpunk 2077, this is a must watch. Also, you don’t have to play the game to watch the series, but I bet you will right after watching it.
