It was only a matter of time until the news has been confirmed! Harrison Ford has been officially announced to play General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the MCU starting with Captain America: New World Order.
From Deadline, here’s what their article said:
It’s official. Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones franchise) will be taking over the Marvel role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, beginning with Phase 5 title Captain America: New World Order. He’ll star opposite Anthony Mackie, with Shira Haas, Tim Blake Nelson and Carl Lumbly also among the ensemble.
Ford’s Captain America casting had been in the rumor mill for some time, with The Ankler’s Jeff Sneider among those speaking to it of late. While the new film’s plot is being kept under wraps, Mackie will reprise his role as Sam Wilson, who assumed the mantle of Captain America in Disney+’s hit series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Julius Onah will serve as the pic’s director.
I’ll be honest, I’m mixed on the casting. Harrison Ford is a great actor and I know for a fact he’s going to do amazing as Ross, but he’s also up there in age so I’m surprised they didn’t cast someone younger. Also, Ford taking all the role to join the MCU was definitely something I had in my bingo card. Well, I’m excited to see what he’ll do on the big screen.
