After the reveal of the new DCU slate, both James Gunn and Peter Safran has been doing some press runs. One of the things that was mentioned is that James Gunn has admitted that DC’s IP was all over the place. And let’s be honest, a lot of us agree with that statement.
From Variety, here’s the statement from their article:
The history of DC is pretty fucked up,” he said. “They were just giving away IP like they were party favors to any creators. What we are going to do is we’re going to promise that everything from our first project forward is going to be unified. But we will say that we’ve gotten very lucky [inheriting these] next four projects.
Being consistent with the DC IP going forward is going to be worth it. The DCEU, DC TV, etc, was just everywhere. Don’t get me wrong, not everything needs to be connected, but the DC IP deserved better. We’re definitely going the right direction with the DCU.
