David Zaslav, great guy am I right? Warner Brothers’ business has been booming, and stocks are through the roof…in another universe. If you hated live service WB games, well it’s not going to get better because it going to continue to be greedy. During the Q3 earnings call, Zaslav has doubled down and said that the company will focus more on live-service games.
Here’s a quote from the call:
Our focus is on transforming our biggest franchises from largely console and PC-based with three-four-year release schedules to include more always-on gameplay through live services, multiplatform, and free-to-play extensions with the goal of having more players spending more time on more platforms.
Ultimately we want to drive engagement and monetization of longer cycles and at higher levels. We have put specific capabilities. We are currently under scale and see significant opportunity to generate greater post purchase revenue.
It’s honestly so ridiculous how greedy WB has gotten for their games. Look at the recent Mortal Kombat 1 game, prices for simple cosmetics are ridiculous. Their Suicide Squad game had a huge backlash when people found out it was monetized too. Hell, even MultiVersus scammed people of their money while it was in beta! And it’s only going to get worse.
David Zaslav and his yes men should not be trying to do this for their gaming division. Things have been getting sour from fans of their games, so if they think they’re going to make Fortnite money, then they need to think again.
